  • The online lecture series will be live-streamed and will feature prominent Roma academics, artists and other distinguished guests discussing topics related to Roma identity and culture

North Macedonian Roma civic organisation, AVAJA and The European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) have announced a series of online lectures addressing Roma identity and culture. The lecture series, which will be live-streamed and available to watch for free online, will be moderated by anthropologist and ethnologist Daniel Petrovski and be attended by an impressive list of Roma experts. The series will be conducted in Macedonian.

The BARVALIPE TALKS series, developed locally in partnership with Roma organisations, aims at providing yet another space to access reliable knowledge about Roma identity, history and cultures. The lecture series is a spin-off of the Barvalipe Roma Online University initiative launched by the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) in partnership with Central European University (CEU) in September 2020.

Barvalipe Roma Online University is an online educational platform where Roma and non-Roma can access knowledge about the Roma identity(ies), history(ies) and culture(s) through a collection of high-quality lectures delivered by leading Roma scholars on topics ranging from the Roma Holocaust to Roma cultural productions. The BARVALIPE TALKS will complement the courses offered by the Barvalipe Roma Online University with additional thematic discussions.

The first lecture hosted by Avaja on 24 August featured Roma Holocaust expert Mustafa Jakupov.
